Short Biography: Dr. Bakhshai is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University. Dr. Bakhshai received his BSc and MSc from the Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and his PhD from Concordia University in 1997. He was a Postdoctoral fellow at Concordia University during 1997-1998. From 1986 to 1993, and from 1998 to 2004, he served on the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Isfahan University of Technology.
Dr. Bakhshai is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario, and in 2021 was elevated to a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has contributed to the engineering discipline as a reviewer for both conferences and journals and has served on research committees. Dr. Bakhshai has acted as a supervisor or co-supervisor for 17 graduate students, and is currently supervising six and co-supervising one. He has published peer-reviewed papers in fields including high power electronics and applications, renewable energy conversion, and control systems. In addition, he has demonstrated his ability to apply his knowledge in an industrial context, contributing to the application of FACTS Controllers and of New Motor Drive Technologies for a Cold Rolling Mill at the Mobarakeh Steel Company, Iran, in 2001, and the design and implementation of a Unified Power Flow Controller in 2002-2003.
Prof. Gevork B. Gharehpetian

Gevork B. Gharehpetian (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree (Hons.) in electrical engineering from Tabriz University, Tabriz, Iran, in 1987, the M.S. degree (Hons.) in electrical engineering from the Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), Tehran, Iran, in 1989, and the Ph.D. degree (Hons.) in electrical engineering from Tehran University, Tehran, in 1996. As a Ph.D. Student, he has received a Scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), from 1993 to 1996. He has been holding the Assistant Professor position at AUT from 1997 to 2003, the position of Associate Professor from 2004 to 2007 and has been Professor since 2007. He was selected by the MSRT (Ministry of Science Research and Technology) as the Distinguished Professor of Iran, by IAEEE (Iranian Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) as the Distinguished Researcher of Iran, by Iran Energy Association (IEA) as the best researcher of Iran in the field of energy, by the MSRT as the Distinguished Researcher of Iran, by the Academy of Science of the Islamic Republic of Iran as the Distinguished Professor of electrical engineering, by National Elites Foundation as the laureates of Alameh Tabatabaei Award and was awarded the National Prize in 2008, 2010, 2018, 2018, 2019 and 2019, respectively. Based on the Web of Science database (2005-2022), he is among world’s top 1% elite scientists according to ESI (Essential Science Indicators) ranking system. He is distinguished, senior and distinguished member of CIGRE, IEEE and IAEEE, respectively. Since 2004, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of IAEEE. He is the author of more than 1400 journal and conference papers. His teaching and research interests include Smart Grid, Microgrids, FACTS and HVDC Systems, Monitoring of Power Transformers and its Transients.
